Tilde

Everything you can do with Tilde

Simple on the outside, complete on the inside: just what you need to write every day, understand how you feel and come back to what matters. And it all stays on your iPhone.

Write

Open, write, close. Everything else is optional.

Never start from a blank page

Tap the pencil and a new entry opens with the keyboard ready. It saves as you type, so there is no save button. When you don’t know what to say, start from a template, like Gratitude or Before bed, or from one of 60 prompts: questions that give you the first nudge.

How to use it

  1. In Journal, tap the pencil at the top.
  2. Write, then tap “Done” or swipe down.
  3. For a prompt: Library › Prompts › “Write with this prompt”.
The Tilde editor with the Gratitude template: “Today I’m grateful for” and three numbered lines.

Photos in your entries

Add up to 20 photos at once from your library, or take one on the spot. They are stored inside the app and open full screen. The gallery view lays out your entries in a grid with their photos and a snippet of text.

How to use it

  1. In an entry, tap the photo button above the keyboard.
  2. Choose from your photos or take one.
  3. In Journal, tap the gallery button to see everything in a grid.

Organize

So any day is easy to find.

Several journals

Split your writing into journals: one for every day, one for travel, one for work. Create, rename and reorder them, and move an entry to another journal right from the editor.

How to use it

  1. Library › Journals › “+” to create one.
  2. In an entry, tap the journal name next to the date to move it.
  3. In Journal, pick a journal at the top to see only its entries.

Tags

Add up to five tags to each entry, like #travel or #family; Tilde suggests the ones you already use. Then filter your journal by one or several. From the Library you can rename, merge or delete them.

How to use it

  1. Below an entry’s text, type in “Add tag”.
  2. In Journal, open “Tags” and pick one.
  3. Library › Tags to tidy them up.

Favorites and multiple selection

Star the entries you want to keep close and filter your journal to see only those. Swipe an entry right to star it or left to delete it. To tidy up in one go, select several and star them, move them to another journal or delete them.

How to use it

  1. In an entry, tap the star, or swipe the row to the right.
  2. In Journal, tap the star at the top to see only your favorites.
  3. Tap “Select”, pick a few entries and choose what to do.

Understand how you feel

Your mood and your habit, at a glance.

Your mood

Each entry can record how you felt, on five faces from “Very low” to “Very good”. And even when you don’t write, “How are you today?” logs it in a single tap. If you like, Tilde asks you at the time you choose, only on days you haven’t answered yet.

How to use it

  1. In Journal, tap “How are you today?” and pick a face.
  2. In an entry, pick the mood above the keyboard.
  3. For the reminder: Settings › Reminders › “Ask how I’m feeling”.
The “How are you today?” sheet with five faces, from Very low to Very good, with Very good selected.

Your streak

Tilde counts the days in a row you write. When you save your first entry of the day, a screen shows your streak and your week, with a special message at 7, 30, 100 and 365 days. If you’d rather not see it, turn it off in Settings.

How to use it

  1. Write your first entry of the day and tap “Done”.
  2. To turn it off: Settings › Streak › “Show my streak when I save”.
The streak screen: a flame, 21 days in a row and the seven days of the week checked.

Insights

Your current and longest streak, how many entries and words you’ve written, and how your mood went in monthly and yearly charts, with its trend. The mood calendar shows each day’s face; tap one to reread what you wrote.

How to use it

  1. Open the Insights tab.
  2. Switch between “Month” and “Year”.
  3. Scroll down to the mood calendar and tap a day.
Insights: a 21-day streak, entries, words and the chart of the month’s mood.

Remember

What you wrote comes back when it matters.

On this day

If you wrote on this date in past years, your journal shows it at the top and, if you like, a morning reminder brings it back without showing the text on the Lock Screen. And for a surprise, “Reread a random entry” in Insights takes you to any day.

How to use it

  1. In Journal, tap “On this day”.
  2. For the reminder: Settings › Reminders › “On this day”.
  3. In Insights, tap “Reread a random entry”.

Your week

At the start of the week, your journal offers a summary of the last one: the days you wrote, your average mood, the tags that came up most and an entry worth rereading. From there you can write about your week with a question ready to go.

How to use it

  1. On the first day of the week, tap “Your week” in Journal.
  2. Tap “Write about my week” if you feel like it.
The “Your week” summary: seven days written, nine entries, mood Good and the tags that came up most.

Reminders

One reminder a day to write, at the time you choose and with a different line each day; if you’ve already written, it stays quiet. Every reminder starts off, and Tilde only asks for permission when you turn one on.

How to use it

  1. Settings › Reminders.
  2. Turn on “Daily reminder” and pick a time.
Reminders in Settings: the daily one at 8:00 PM, “On this day” and the mood question at 9:00 PM.
